The Institute

European Institute for
Applied Biodata Science

Research, methodology and knowledge transfer. Everything that comes out of the European Institute for Applied Biodata Science — publications, pipelines, training — comes from the same scientific team.

Why it exists

A discipline that did not fit the existing org charts.

Biological data raise problems that generalist data science does not fully solve: the variability of living organisms, complex causality, and the ethical and regulatory demands of clinical data.

The European Institute for Applied Biodata Science was organised specifically around that problem.

We are not a department inside a university. We are not a unit inside a hospital. We are not a consultancy adapting itself to the health sector. We are an institution whose sole reason for existing is biodata science.

Scientific activity

Three strands. One standard.

01

Applied research

We work on what nobody else is doing. Our own projects and joint work with European partners: epidemiological modelling, causal inference on observational data, reproducible data infrastructures, computational surveillance.

Every project generates methodology that is published, transferred and applied — in that order.

02

Knowledge transfer and scientific services

What we publish, we apply. Hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, universities, public administrations: from statistical analysis for high-impact publications to audits of reproducibility and data integrity.

We do not have a research team and a commercial team. We have one team.

03

High-performance training

You learn from the team that publishes. The Applied Academy brings into the classroom the experience, the methodology and the judgement that the scientific team applies every day on real projects.

This is not theory adapted for teaching: it is research practice set down so that you can reproduce it with your own data.

THE FOUR DISCIPLINES

The analytical framework of the European Institute
for Applied Biodata Science.

01

Clinical biostatistics

Study design, predictive modelling, survival analysis and methodological validation to the publication standards of first-quartile journals.

02

Causal inference

Leadership

Dr Marta María Dolcet Negre

Co-founder · Scientific Director

Dr Dolcet Negre leads the scientific and academic work of the European Institute for Applied Biodata Science. Her work brings together advanced biostatistics, data science and molecular biology in a single analytical framework applied to the life sciences.

Researcher and lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Salamanca (USAL) and research member of IBSAL (Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca); she previously worked at the CSIC.

She has published as co-author in Nature Microbiology (July 2025) in the field of microbial ecology and antimicrobial resistance. She also serves as an expert reviewer for Revista de Investigación e Innovación en Ciencias de la Salud (RIICS), assessing the methodological quality and integrity of third-party research.

With a background in Biotechnology (Cum Laude), Data Science and Engineering, her profile brings together biological experimentation, computation at scale and the statistical rigour needed to produce defensible science.

Leadership

David Escalante

Co-founder · Strategy Director

He makes sure the science reaches where it needs to reach. Responsible for institutional strategy, international partnerships and the operating model of the European Institute for Applied Biodata Science.

His job is to turn the Institute's scientific capacity into real impact: partners for the projects, students who fit each programme, and a structure that grows without losing focus.

He leads the design of the professional-profile pathways and the architecture of the executive programme.

Areas of responsibility

  • — Institutional strategy and partnerships
  • — Executive programme architecture
  • — International partnership development
  • — Professional-profile pathways

Shall we work together?

If your organisation has unanalysed data, a project that needs methodological rigour, or a team that wants to train with us, let's start with a conversation.
